Justine with Clive Layton |
| |
What can I say about Clive; until I actually hooked up with him in April. I knew more about Clive through a mutual friend than having had any contact with him myself. As a person he was a mystery to me yet I secretly wished that I could be involved in some of his musical ventures simply because his reputation preceded him. I expressed my desire to work with Clive and nervously suggested that we should be open minded about how we approach this (knowing that he doesn't suffer fools gladly, I guess I just wanted the opportunity to collaborate in any way possible, and just for him to say YES!.) Clive took me up on this and was intruiged to hear my songs aswell as write new stuff together. To come to the point we complemented each other very nicely thankyou. Rehearsals are going great and are usually accompanied by a good vintage, which I find very agreeable.

Clive Layton is a well known musician in the midlands area. Specialising in piano and Hammond Organ, he has toured all over the world and recorded with artistes as diverse as Alison Moyet, Terry Hall, Ian Broudie and New Model Army.
Drawing on equally diverse influences, including Frank Zappa, Erik Satie and his late father Archie, a well respected pianist, he brings a sparse, jazz-tinged style of playing to Justine’s powerful, haunting songs.
Having seen Justine perform on several occasions, Clive was keen to collaborate, sensing a like-minded musical spirit. The two have worked on new compositions as well as new workings of many of Justine’s existing songs.
As well as having composed music for various film and video projects, Clive has been writing and recording with his band Monkeys Grin for the past few years.
